• What is recommended for cleaning my RIKON tool?
Prior to cleaning any tool, first unplug from the power source. All Cast Iron surfaces should be cleaned with WD40® type product. After this cleaning, an application of a sealant to protect the surface. Top-Cote® spray is a powerful anti-corrosive, low friction, durable coating, as well as a sealant. Use it on your table saw top, jointer bed, hand tools, or any metal surface for maximum protection against friction and rust. Top-Cote® is low temperature rated and is formulated specifically for surface coating. Another brand of table-top surface lubricant is Empire. Empire’s micro lubrication technology bonds to your machine’s cast iron surface structure and reduce sliding friction between wood and metal surfaces. It eliminates board hang-up and binding for smoother material feed. Contains no silicone or petroleum oils. Perfect for all saw tables, jointer and planer beds, drill press tables, sander tops, and power and hand planes. It also helps to prevent corrosion.
Painted or Plastic Surfaces:
Mild solutions of detergents will aid in removing most dirt. Do not use scouring powders or solvents as they will scuff or dull the finish. Try to keep water away from non painted metal surfaces. Do not use glass cleaner as it will promote rust. Wipe dry all surfaces after cleaning.
Bare Metal Surfaces:
Non painted metal surfaces and castings should be cleaned with quality metal polishes and sealers. Try not to get metal polish on painted surfaces as it may dull the finish. Do not use glass cleaner as it will promote rust. Wipe dry all surfaces after cleaning.
• Does RIKON recommend a specific type of lubricant for parts maintenance?
Unplug power tools before cleaning or performing maintenance. All gear operated mechanisms require quality non-aerosol white lithium grease. Areas to grease include guide post rack and pinion assemblies and table trunnions on bandsaws as well as table raise/lower gears and spindles on drill presses. Other areas to use white lithium grease also include threaded assemblies for blade tension and drive belt tension in bandsaws and in trunnion assemblies on table saws. Light oil can be used on friction areas such as door/lid hinges and wheel axles. Contact Technical Support at 877-884-5167 for detailed information about specific models.
